The Gulf Coast is unique for its history and for its culture which has developed from a heritage that was the first concentrated "Melting Pot" of ethnic groups in the Americas. National domination during the 17th century was first by the French, followed by the English, and then the Spanish. The French easily mixed with the Indians making them friends. When slavery became a commodity, the Black culture was introduced. Following the Revolutionary War, the Americans from the eastern seaboard took control in 1811. They were followed by European migrations that were lead by Slavic and Irish freedom seekers, who in turn, opened the doors for their neighboring countries to find a land, a climate, and a great maritime economic potential along the Gulf of Mexico beaches.
The Mississippi counties of Hancock, Harrison and Jackson along the Mississippi Sound and the villages and cities of Waveland, Lakeshore, Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead, Kiln, Pass Christian, DeLisle, Long Beach, Gulfport, Biloxi, D'Iberville, Gautier, Ocean Springs, and Pascagoula; - - - These are all subjects that are written about by Dan Ellis.
